Information
about retread tyres
| Who
benefits from using retreaded tyres? |
| Retreaded tyres give
the same mileage as comparable new tyres, at a lower cost-per-mile.
The cost of a retreaded tyre will generally be from 30%
to 50% less than the cost of a new tyre. This translates
to millions of pounds in savings for consumers and trucking
fleets every year. Reteads are available with all types
of tread patterns, including all-season and mud and snow
tread patterns off the road and long haul. [

| Who
Uses Retreads ? |
| Nearly 100 percent of the world’s
airlines use retreaded tyres. 80% of the tyres used by
the the commercial aviation industry are retreaded tyres.
Off-the-road, heavy duty vehicles use retreaded tyres.
Trucking fleets and overnight delivery vehicles use retreaded
tyres. Taxi fleets, race cars and industrial vehicles
use retreaded tyres. [

Proper tyre care and safety is
simple and easy |
|
Pressure Underinflation is a tyre's number 1 Enemy.
It results in unnecessary tyre stress, heat buildup, irregular
wear, loss of control and increased fuel consumption.
Extreme heat buildup will cause a tyre to break
up, hence the main reason for rubber
on the road. Truck tyres should be checked for wear
and pressure at least once per week, and should include
spare wheels. A tyre can lose up to half of its air pressure
and not appear to be flat! Under inflated tyres will dramatically
increase fuel consumption, reduce tyre wear, increase
engine wear - mechanical maintenance. [

| Rubber
on the Road, The Facts |
| Rubber tread can strip off any tyre, new
or retread, when frictional heat due to soft or under-inflated
tyres causes tread separation. Correct tyre pressure
maintenance is therefore imperative. Surveys have
been carried out internationally and here in the UK a
survey was commissioned by the Department of Transport
(now the DETR). This was conducted by the Transport Research
Laboratory in conjunction with the tyre industry. During
this survey tyre debris was collected from a 10 mile stretch
of motorway and analysed.... [
